Secrets from the past - Grace's POV 6

Welch and five further security details jumped to their feet, as Kate stumbled into the room.
"What are you saying, Mrs. Grey? Who got your Mother in law?"
"Sawyer, Cain, and Lewis, you go immediately and conduct a thorough search of the office of Dr. Trevelyan, the adjacent rooms and then the rest of the building. Prescott, you stay with Mrs.Grey, get her a glass of water or whatever she wants".
With those barked instructions Welch and his team stormed out.
Kate was still rooted t I the spot in the doorway.
Officer Prescott put her arm around her:
"Come, please, Ma’am, sit down, you look very pale." Kate sat in a chair and tried to calm her shattered nerves. Taking a sip from the glass of water, she started to talk: " Do you know, who could have done this to Grace, emmh, I mean, Dr Trevelyan?"
"No, I can't understand it either," said Prescott.
The minutes ticked by, turning into one hour, still no word from. Welch or anyone else foot that matter.
Prescott tried as good as she could, to assure Kate, that Welch and his team would soon find her mother in law and hopefully the person why attacked her, as well.
Suddenly the door to the office flew open and the five guards rushed in.
"Dr. Trevelyan-Grey has disappeared", Welch uttered through clenched teeth.

After 48 hours I was deemed fit enough to be released from hospital and return to our house in Bellevue.
When I arrived with Taylor driving the SUV, a huge banner above the front door greeted me, saying: "Welcome home, Mum." The front door opened, and there they stood; my whole beloved family:
Carrick, Christian, Elliot, Ana, Kate, Mia and Ethan, and of course my grandchildren Teddy, Ava and Phoebe.
I was so overwhelmed by the sight, my tears started to well up in my eyes. I swallowed hard and started walking towards them. Carrick stepped forward and hugged me tightly, whispering in my ear: I love you so much, Grace. I don't know what I would have done, if you. Weren’t here anymore."
"Ssht", I whispered back, “don’t talk about that, I am here and I am not going anywhere in a hurry, darling"
After a lot of hugs and kisses we all trooped inside the house, where another surprise was waiting for me: the dining table was laid out with exquisite porcelain and cutlery and glasses Soft candlelight bathed the room in a mellow amber glow
Carrick took my elbow and guided me to the chair at the head of the table.
After everybody was seated, a waiter came in, carrying a bottle of wine on a silver tray.
Pouring a measure into Carrick's glass, he stepped back and waited until my husband had tasted it and nodded to him. The waiter filled the remaining vessels and left the room.
Carrick tapped his glass slightly with the side of a dessertspoon and raised his glass towards me; " gosh, he going to make a speech”, I thought to myself.
"I raise my glass to the safe return of my dear, beloved wife Grace. I can say in the name of the whole family here present, how relieved and overjoyed we all are, to have you sitting here today in our midst. I will not dwell on the recent past, but look to the future with you by my side, with our children and grandchildren. Grace we all love you and missed you.
Welcome home, my love."
After we all toasted one another, the large double doors opened and several waiters walked in with covered lates.
The dinner was about to start.
