The wheels of legal procedures for Christian's adoption had been set
into motion.
Carrick asked one of his associates to take charge of the matter in
hand.
Meanwhile Welch did some back ground search and checks behind the
scenes, but drew a blank.Nothing came to light, not even the tiniest hint of
Christian's mother's former life or who his father might have been. The family
court could also not find any living relatives on his mother's side. All that we
were aware of,was her first name:Ella.
In the meantime Christian had been released from the hospital. He had
gained a little bit of weight and also grown some more in the short time he had
spend there.
For now he was placed into a foster home; the Collier family, whilst
the.courts decided over his future; a future,I hoped and prayed, would be with
us,forever
It took a little over two month until we could finally call him"our
son".
One bright,early summer,day,shortly before Christians 5th
birthday,Carrick and I drove down to the Collier family to pick him up. When we
arrived, the whole family stood in the porch and waved at us,as we approached. I
strained my eyes to try and spott Christian, but a slightly taller, older boy
pushed himself in front and started to act silly, pulling funny faces and
generally prancing around. Then I spotted 'him'. He stood close to Mrs.Collier,
a jovial, friendly woman in her forties, shy and looking as serious as I
remembered him to look.
Carrick and I greeted the couple warmly and Mrs.Collier gently pushed
Christian to the front with the words: "say hello to your new mom and
dad,babybird."
Reluctantly Christian stepped forward and stood awkwardly, just looking
at us. No shy smile this time, just questioning gray eyes fixed on Carrick and
me.
We walked into the house, which was tidy and clean,to gather Christian's
few belongings. After a cup of coffee and biscuits we said our farewells.I
looked around to say good bye to the older boy as well, but he was nowhere to be
seen.
Little did I know then, that Jack, the boy's name, would disrupt all our
lives in many years to come.
Shortly afterwards we were all ready to set off home with"our son
Christian Grey".Waving one last farewell, Carrick steered our car out into
the road homeward bound, towards a new life for the little orphaned boy, 'our
new son",
Christian Grey.
The End?
