Grace's recollections of Christian's early years - part 5

That night neither of us slept very well.
Carrick pretended to be asleep; I tossed and turned until he finally turned over to face me.
"Are you restless because of that little boy; what was his name again?" he asked.
I just nodded too afraid that my voice could reveal my emotional state,I was in.
"Come, I will make us a cup of tea and we will talk about this plan of yours," said my ever practical, down to earth husband.
A little later we sat up.in bed hot herbal tea on the side tables.
"If you really want to take on the added responsibility for another child as young as this one is, I have no objection," Carrick said softly.
I smiled a shy smile at him and quietly sighed with great relief. The first hurdle was overcome.
"Oh Carrick, I would love to do that so very much."
I move a bit closer and laid my head on his chest; Carrick leaned over and kiss the top of my head in a very gentle manner.
"I know, my sweet, I can tell how much this boy has already taken possession of your heart. As long there is a little space left for me, you have got my full support in this matter. I will start first thing in the morning to look at the legal formalities involving the adoption procedures. We have done it all before when we adopted Elliot. It should not pose too big a problem. Come on, love, let us try and sleep a bit more, it is still in the early hours of the morning."
Setting down again, I closed my eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.
A day is dawning, a new life beckons for a little boy called: Christian.
